My January 2026 gallery show at Petrov Frame Atelier focuses on the “humanity” of travel. My first trip outside the United States (other than to Canada) was when I was in my mid 30’s and had a two-week business trip to Japan. I carefully prepared for the trip spending much time trying to understand both the cultural and business norms of Japan which proved immensely helpful in both my business and personal interactions.
The “humanistic” element of travel suggests at least a basic understanding of who and where one will visit. It requires one to be respectful of the differences in both culture and food experienced along the journey. Mixing in a bit of kindness, empathy, and humility further enhances the travel experience leading to more meaningful experiences.
The photographs selected for this show depict human interaction from a few of my travels. You’ll note there are few famous landmarks or famous tourist sites as most meaningful interactions take place off the beaten path. Many of the photographs are just people I met along the way or observed just living everyday life. Photographer Nicholas Pinto says, “Life does not only happen in exotic places, it happens wherever you are. Be Present.”
I hope you enjoy my photographs and embrace the “humanity” of travel on your next adventure whether it be near or far.
